Talked to Zane’s nurse today.  The sedated hearing test is scheduled for June, which will include a mercury test.  Also, part of the MRI finding is that his brain is of normal size.  (one of our questions after reading the new Time Magazine article.

The really bad money situation for NASA appears to be handled for the momment.  The way it was set up, Zach wasn’t going to get any of the money until a week or two after he arrived there, and right now that amount is only about 20% of the total.  That is a real problem since we have to get a plane ticket, pay for housing, and be able to eat and such and don’t have money to do any of those.  His Dad stepped in and is loaning us some money so he can get there and pay for the beginning part of the stay.  An answer to prayers!

We also have to make arrangements to get his financial aid money.  If it was the fall sememster, it could just be direct deposited (new system in place), but this semester we have to do paperwork to have a paper check mailed, then I have to mail it to Zach to sign, and he has to send it back.  We are going to check with the bank to see if we can do it without the signatures, which would mean that money would be available about the same time as the 20% from NASA.

Basically, we had enough money to do everything this summer, but it was all coming after we needed it.  (well, we don’t have enough to rent a car for Zach down there, but hopefully it is actually in walking distance like they say it is, and we are hoping there is a taxi service or he can find somebody to help him get to the grocery store and such once he is there)  So, things are looking do-able at this point.  Whew!

How about just forging his signature?  I do that a lot. :)

  • A tulip doesn’t strive to impress anyone. It doesn’t struggle to be different than a rose. It doesn’t have to. It is different. And there’s room in the garden for every flower. You didn’t have to struggle to make your face different than anyone else’s on earth. It just is. You are unique because you were created that way. Look at little children in kindergarten. They’re all different without trying to be. As long as they’re unselfconsciously being themselves, they can’t help but shine. It’s only later, when children are taught to compete, to strive to be better than others, that their natural light becomes distorted. — Marianne Williamson
