We began homeschooling in the fall of 2007, after pulling Zane out of the local Kindergarten class. In the spring of 2008 we officially registered with the state of Kansas as a “non-accredited private school” and named it “Ad Astra Academy”.
“Ad Astra” means “to the stars” and is part of the state motto: “Ad Astra per Aspera”, meaning “To the Stars through Difficulty”.
Although the day to day events of school will be a part of the regular blog, I wanted a space to put things like curriculum, essays, books (other than curriculum), and teaching techniques that have really helped Zane understand and use the material.
