Tweaking the move from Xanga

Well, I am thankful that I have the husband that I do because this move would have been nearly impossible without him.

He has had to write a few little programs to get everything over here, including one that moved all of the photos over and then replaced all of the photos hotlinked to xanga and made them connect to the storage here instead. He also had to write a script to attribute the comments correctly. Right now he is working on making the subscription thing work when our domain doesn’t want to let it work correctly. Hopefully that will be up soon too. (Although he wasn’t feeling well today, so that might not be immediately)

On our list…still wanting to get the avatars working and figure out a photo gallery, amongst other things.

Getting ready to move the blog

The lack of posts is because I am trying to figure out wordpress as I get ready to move my blog.  Xanga has irritated me for long enough and I am ready to move.

As a girl who used to be able to hardcode HTML and program in C, it is really frustrating for me to realize I have no idea what I am doing anymore.  I look at the CSS and PHP and and can’t figure out how to modify it.  I haven’t used FTP in years and had to get Zach to show me how to use it again.  lol

Nothing major has happened since my last post. We had a good 4th, but forgot the camera.  There are a few pictures stuck in the camera phone and when I get those off the phone I will post more about the holiday.  Since then, just doing the homemaker thing and Zane has a cold.

Oh HAPPY DAY!

Zach got a written offer in the mail today!  WooHoo!  He called, negotiated a few points, and is being sent the final draft for us to sign.  A non-academic job, so there is a decent salary to go with it.  Now we can (hopefully) afford to pay back the student loans and still eat.  lol

eta:  Yes, it’s in Wichita.  No moving!

drumming my fingers….

I keep refreshing their home page to see if they are posting the video.  lol.  Not there yet.  They have an article here, but not the video of our exact interview.  If it doesn’t get posted overnight, we will try and get it recorded off of the DVR, but I am not sure how to do that.  I was VERY happy with this interview.  Much better, even though I look really shiny.  lol.

Snow leaving quickly

Zach, Zane and Mickey playing a game.  Mickey was player #3 with a working control.  Zane “helped” Mickey play by putting his hand over Mickey’s hand and moving the joystick for him, while controlling his own with the other hand.  Notice how carefully he made a seat for him so he would be comfortable.

Cleaning up the snow this morning.  Zora helped out her daddy.

Job search

Zach’s contract is up in May.  Although he is interested in picking up a contract for teaching, he is also feeling like doing something else. At any rate, a contract hasn’t been offered yet, and might not be because of the change in the department (the CS department is moving from the Liberal Arts college to the Engineering college).  So, we have been looking at options.  Today he had a phone interview with a local company that went well.  The job is downtown, but it sounds interesting.  They have asked for a second interview in person, including the top people at the company.  The pay would be better than teaching.  The environment sounds good too.  I guess we will see.  I hope we are able to maintain clarity as we decide what to do.  (assuming there will be a choice)

“sweetpeace”

I know there are lots of people who will say that they just “can’t live without” this thing, but it sort of horrifies me.  It is only mitigated by the fact that the advertisement for it plays more like a Saturday Night Live Skit because it is so insanely obvious that it’s purpose is to never freakin’ touch your child with, ya know, your actual hands or body or anything, ever, for months.  Sweetpeace

eta:  OK, honestly I can see a limited use for it, like for moms who find it physically difficult to hold the baby all the time, like for the times when my back hurt so bad.  However, it is really only useful if you have one child because most older kids would see it as playground equiptment and it would just snap off.  I also seriously doubt either of my kids would have liked it…it doesn’t move fast enough.  lol.  I think the potential for overuse is really high though, so I sort of cringe when I see it.
