Just a bit of reflecting here.
When we named Zane, I had never met anybody with that name, in real life or online. Since he is born I keep seeing the name more and more on several different parenting boards. One is a few years older, but I know quite a few that are younger.
I have heard a lot of “Z” names it seems. I don’t remember hearing them like I do now. I wonder if it is a trend (like the “K” sound was in the 90’s) or I am just more aware of it since I have two with a Z name. One of the “Zane’s” online has a sister “Zina” and locally, in a very small playgroup, there are two Zane’s and a Zepher. (who we REALLY need to get together with!)
Just thought it was interesting.
Way back when I was born, I was the only Mia (other than Mia Farrow, who I was not named after). I remember people butchering it, calling me weird nicknames, and just wishing fervantly that my parents had given me a nice, normal name like Nancy. Now I hear of little girls all the time with the name Mia, and it still totally jars me, because I have always been so used to being the only one.
I noticed that with Kieran’s name (hey a K name!) We thought we were being all orginal and then a few months after it was settled the name kept popping up everywhere! Donovan was more common but we liked it, and then the same thing with Liam happened, we picked it and then everyone followed suit, even a cousin of mine! I see a lot of Rhiannons and Morgaines and Morgans on MDC lately too.
My neighbor has a son named Zane as well. It seems everywhere lately, but it is still a winner. There is now a car remake called the Zephyr coming out and right after Zep was born the Red Hot Chili Peppers release the Zephyr Song. That annoyed the crap out of me…I got over it.
