Updates: ST semester ends, Friend’s Birthday Party, Cookies with Grandma

Play time!

His last day of the semester at the university speech therapy.  If I am able to I want to upload a video of this because you have to hear it to understand how crazy this picture actually is.  They are trying to get the kids to play “Go Fish” with no visual supports.  It is a study in echolalia with rather dizzying results.  (sort of a “Who’s on First” experience)  She is a bit older than Zane, but they are at a similar level.  She is very chatty though where Zane is pretty quiet.

Party Time!

At one of Zane’s friend’s birthday party last week.  It was at a place called “Pump it Up” and had these huge inflatable play structures.  Zora has no fear and was trying to climb the ladder to the really big slide by herself and didn’t want to wait to get settled to go down.  Zane took a bit longer to warm up to the big slide, but at the end, he didn’t want to stop.  lol.

Grandma Time!

This week Grandma came up with lots of goodies to play with:  paint, stickers, markers, giant pieces of paper and little notebooks.  (oh, and food…spaghetti, always a hit).  For the first time, Zora wasn’t the least bit hesitant for Mom and Dad to leave.  She was yelling bye-bye at us when we picked up the keys and seemed delighted that she was going to get some Grandma time.  Zane, as usual, was quite happy too.

After they played with that, they decorated Christmas cookies with candy.  Zane ate most of them right after he decorated them, but at least he ate the whole cookie.  Zora kept licking the toppings off and leaving the cookie.

The both sacked out shortly after Grandma left.  She wore them out.

Grandma here…We had such fun. Zane was quite focused on decorating for a couple of hours, with trying to get the dough shapes out of the cutters. “All broken..try again”. Then with putting sprinkles on. He finally dumped most all of the sprinkles on at once when I had my back turned.

When he was finished and wanted to play video games with me, he told me so and I had just put another batch of cookies in the oven. I told him, “just another 5 minutes and the cookies will be baked, and then I can play videos with you.” He went to one of the dining room chairs and sat sooo nicely for about  a minute. Then he started, “One, two, three, four, five…there, cookies alll done. Play video games!”

One of the other smile times was Zora. Jennifer had gotten her a couple of pieces of winter clothes recently that she showed me before they left. I had said, “Oh that’s cute…that’s cute…that’s cute.”In the height of the decorating/baking frenzy she brought each one into the kitchen, held it up and said, “Toot…toot…toot” and did that with her new clothes and several others.  She’s too toot!

When I took my camera to take pix of Zane decorating she saw the camera, and with her red-icing face, she bent over, put her hands on her knees, looked straight up at me with the cutest sparkle-eyed grin and said, “Cheeeese, cheeeeeese!” Needless to say, I got a red-mouthed grinning girl picture to show for it.

As I left Zane came to give me a bye bye hug and kiss. Zora was in Momma’s arms and when she saw big brother doing that, she decided she wanted to do that too, so she wriggled out of momma’s arms, ran over to me, gave me a big hug and kiss. She then turned around back toward momma and wiped the kiss off. I asked for another kiss, she ran over to me, kissed me, turned around and wiped it off. Just to be ornery, I asked for another, she repeated it, always wiping it off. It was too toot. Last night when I talked to her on the phone, I think she said she gave me a kiss. It made me smile all over again.

I’m looking forward to her birthday celebration tonight. Uncle Steve is planning to come with us. She will probably be too toot again. And…Zane will have someone to play videos with. Too toot.
