-”Harlem Nights” was playing at Cinema’s East, which hasn’t existed for years and is now a bicycle shop.
-”Jimmy’s Diner” had burger baskets for about $2 each, and that still exists.
-Zach drove at night for the first time in a 1966 Mercedes Benz that blew a rod a few months later
-We had our first date

Love you honey. It’s been a blink. Really.

Major milestone for Zach and Me

Today the number of days Zach and I have been parents is equal to the the amount of time we spent dealing with infertility. (if you only count the amount of time we were actively trying to have kids and not all of the years before where I was working just to maintain fertility…but our kids will almost be out of the house before I hit that date, so let’s ignore that for now. lol)

I am so thankful to finally hit this turning point. I feel so fortunate to be blessed with my great kiddos.

Anniversary Date

Twenty-nine days late, we celebrated our Anniversary.  My mom came up and played with the kids (mostly in the backyard) this afternoon.  We went out to eat, and then did what everyone does when they are celebrating…went to a used bookstore.  lol.  It was so nice to wander around without having to keep little hands from pulling things off of shelves and darting off while you try and browse.

x2008-05-13 003.jpgYou would think that since we are away from the kids we would browse the grown-up literature.  nope.  I spent most of the time browsing through the children’s section.  I probably put back 10-15 books that I wanted for every one I purchased.  Most of the books were around $2, with a few at $5.  All but one were hardcover books.  Sweet!

Although I would have loved to browse the fiction, my reading list goes unread at this point anyway, and I need to thumb through some parenting books on my shelf as my kids suddenly hit new phases that I am not entirely sure how to deal with, so it isn’t like I would get to read fiction anytime soon.  Considering I read at least 10 kid’s books a day (on a light day), I have motivation to try and add some variety to that.

Lucky 13

My best friend, followed by mom called today to wish us happy anniversary.  I didn’t even realize it was my anniversary until I was talking to my friend and she mentions “…so he only has 15 days to finish the thesis?”  and I went “yeah…wait a minute…is it the 15th today?”  duh.

Not feeling particularly celebratory today.  We have $3 in our bank account, I have a sore throat, headache, my chest feels tight, and the beginning of an ear infection.  The ST was sick today, so Zane didn’t have therapy today and I am wondering if I caught whatever she has.  (stuff is going around at all of our therapy providers actually).

Zach has spent most of the day in front of the computer cussing at the screen and asking me math/computer questions that I certainly hope are rhetorical because I don’t even understand half the words in the sentence.  lol.  He is snuggling and singing with his favorite kids right now, taking a break.  Makes my heart happy to see him with the kids.

So, 13 years ago we got married.  One of the top days of my life.  I made a really good decision that day.

TWO date nightS! Dance Festival with “beyond.words” & a movie

Tonight, for the second time this week, my mom came up to watch the kids.

On Saturday, we unexpectedly got complimentary tickets to see the ballet and she came up.  The ballet was just amazing.  It was a festival, so there were several different colleges showcasing pieces.  All but one were really great.  (the “one” could be described as “purposeful walking” with a hip jiggle every once in a while.  The dancers weren’t bad, but the choreography was like a bad cheerleading routine).  The variety was amazing.  There was a very energetic, athletic dance done to strong African drums that just left you breathless.  There were a few that were so funny the audience was roaring, and some really powerful abstract pieces.  Then, of course, there was the dance we came for.  “beyond.words” was just the most moving piece I have ever seen.  Minutes into it I was transfixed, and moments later I was crying.  By the end I was working to keep from doing the “ugly cry” as the lights came up.  Truly a powerful, amazing work.  When it premieres in it’s full length version, it would be worth a trip to New York to see it on broadway.  Really.  It is still with me days later.  It moved me more than Les Miserables that I saw almost 20 years ago on Broadway.

Tonight, mom came back, this time bearing gifts and food for the kids (she brought food for them last time too, now that I think of it).  Fazoli’s, a sure fire hit with the kids, a “baking set” (kid size muffin tins, rolling pin, cookie cutters, baking pan) and tubs of play-dough.  They had a blast.

We had a blast too.  We saw Beowulf.  I didn’t realize it was all computer generated until a minute or two into the movie.  It was well done.  We went out to have the Cheddar-Ale soup at Granite City afterwards.  That is just the yummiest soup ever and perfect on a chilly night.
